About

John Cryan Sr. was always a jack of all trades and frequently worked on watch repair. During the height of World War II, John Cryan Sr. decided he wanted to open a business that dealt with his passion… jewelry.

1944

The business was established on the corner of Cheltenham and Ogontz Avenues in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania under the name John S. Cryan Jewelers.

1951

John Cryan Sr. and his wife Pauline moved the store to Broad and Olney because of its busier nature.

1963

Soon after World War II, John Cryan Sr. passed away, leaving the store to John Cryan Jr. to take over.  John Cryan Jr. worked there until 1963.

1964

John Cryan Jr. and Martha moved the store in 1964, to its current location in Southampton, Pennsylvania.

1976

John Cryan III attended Bowman Technical where he met his wife, Sue, only a year later. At Bowman John learned classic American watch repair and Sue learned hand engraving and jewelry repair.

1986

Keeping the business in the family, John S. Cryan III and his wife, Susan, took over the business.

1988

John and Sue decided to renovate the store again by moving the door, gutting the showroom and redesigning the sign.

2010

John Cryan IV graduated high school early and began working at the store with his parents.

2012

John Cryan IV graduated from New Approach School for Jewelers. Since then he has worked with his parents at the Southampton location.
